Santa Fe used to sound better. Now, in the City of Holy Faith, all one hears is dogs barking continually and booming car stereos that inspire terror, ruin nerves and burst blood vessels. Night and day, Santa Fe sounds like Armageddon. Simulated bombing and thunder from car stereos; loud, non-stop sharp barking–unnecessary, man-made noise-pollution and purposeful acts of audio-terror–have replaced peaceful chattering, laughter, men at work, brooms sweeping, birds chirping, El Santo Rosario and New Mexico music favorites on the a.m. radio, and an occasional Spanish guitar in the atmosphere.

If your life or nightly sleeping hours are disturbed by constant loud barking and/or loud music, whether it comes from cars or houses, stand up for your rights and call the police. The “powers-that-be” in Santa Fe have let this nerve-wracking scourge continue for too long. Noise pollution is much more hazardous to your health than Wi-Fi waves, which were somewhat of an issue last year. The City of Holy Faith now sounds like the City of Holy Hell. It’s time to get active. Help stop unnecessary noise pollution in Santa Fe!~~~Santa Fe News Blog, Copyright May 12th, 2009 Santa Fe, New Mexico, U.S.A.

As the spa people, lured by a $2.5 million public relations campaign, relax on the massage tables and, fresh from the sauna, have their nails done, they probably won’t notice the alarming headlines. But if they leave the hotel they’ll encounter evidence of the chronic petty crime that criminologists take as a sign of deeper trouble: the graffiti sprayed on adobe walls and etched on windows and traffic signs. The Budweiser bottles, Jack Daniel’s miniatures, and empty 12-packs littering the streets. The hostile drivers with their deafening boom boxes cruising the Plaza, broadcasting contempt for everyone but themselves.
It will take more than a facial to turn this troubled little city into a saleable “product.” The most powerful publicity is word of mouth. You can buy all the ads you like, but illusions can be sustained for only so long.

Of all things in a town with little water, the Santa Fe City Council and Mayor David Coss have put down fresh, green, live sod all over the Plaza. What a shameless waste, especially when one considers what happens to outdoor surfaces in Santa Fe. It will not be long before the dog-walkers let Fido do his business there, sneaking in a little haz-mat gift for children and other patrons of the Plaza. Why waste water this way, setting a bad example for people who must follow the watering rules? For those of us who rarely let gray water (already used in the sink or bath) go down the drain, but with faithful and arduous effort, rush it out to the garden to give the trees a drink, this is extremely depressing. This is not San Francisco, and we do not need a “green space”–especially when the very notion of it does not comply with “Green Living” practices!

Honoring, Thanking and Commemorating Our Valiant Veterans and Current Soldiers: God bless you, one and all!
Today is the birthday of KSWV station owner, Mrs. George (Celine) Gonzales. Happy Birthday!
Santa Fe Community College Board member and local musician, Chris Abeyta, was on the Pat & Art Show this morning. He talked about upcoming musical acts at Santa Fe’s Plaza Bandstand. Notably, Antonia Apodaca, the Santa Fé All Stars, La Familia Vigil, and guitarist Antonio Mendoza will appear.
Check the Santa Fé Bandstand website for further information. Shows begin on July 6th. Chris Abeyta then gave a message to the driving public of Santa Fé: just before the junction of St. Francis and Cerrillos Road, there is a sign at the railroad track that says, “Stop Here on Red”–prove that you can read, and
do it! Señor Abeyta played and sang a couple of New Mexico favorite songs, as he did on Community Day at the Plaza Bandstand. As a Viet Nam veteran, he talked about veterans’ health, drug-abuse issues, and the importance of the Flag Salute, with which Pat Gonzales and Art Michael readily agreed, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance together. The three men discussed the gratitude that we should all have for our military.
